Where can I fly fish in the Colorado Rockies?

Fly Fishing

I’m going back to visit family in Castle Rock, CO, and I was hoping to do some fly fishing while there. I’d like to stay in the Denver-metro area, but I could travel a ways if need be. Does anyone have suggestions for that area?

Wow. You have lots of choices. I think I would hire a guide from Kirks Flyshop or the Estes Angler or Rocky Mountain Adventures to fish the streams in the Rocky Mountain Park, the upper Colorado, the North Platte or the Big Thompson.

If you want to do it yourself then I would get the following book:

Flyfisher’s Guide to Colorado by Marty Bartholomew published by Wilderness Adventure Press Box 627 Gallatin Gateway, MT 59730 Tel 800-925-3339

The book tells you where to go, where to stay and where to fish on the stream and any restrictions. Good book for the do it yourself Colorado fisherman.

Personally, I think the stream management by the State of Colorado is just terrible and I would go to Montana but I understand the family in Colorado thing. I have the same problem. Sure wish they would move to Montana!!
